Are all doors closed and locked?

Are the inside and outside mirrors
adjusted?

Is everyone’s seat belt fastened?

Do all the lights work?

S

Check all gauges.

S

Check all warning lights when the
ignition switch is in the ON position.

S

Release the parking brake and make
sure the brake warning light goes off.

Always be thoroughly familiar with your
Mazda.

No special break-in is necessary, but a
few precautions in the first 1,000 miles
(1,600 km) may add to the performance,
economy, and life of your Mazda.

Don’t race the engine.

S

Avoid unnecessary hard stops.

The break-in period for new brake linings
lasts for 100 miles (160 km) of city driv-
ing or 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of highway
driving.

S

Avoid full-throttle starts.

S

Don’t tow a trailer during the vehicle’s
first 500 miles (800 km) (page 4-19).

S

Wheel lug nuts must be retightened
to proper torque specifications at
500 miles (800 km) of new vehicle
operation.

Use only the type of engine oil
recommended in this guide.
