S

To turn the trailer, place your hand at
the bottom of the steering wheel and
turn it in the direction you want the
trailer to go. Make only slight move-
ments to prevent sharp turns of the
trailer.

Ascending a hill

S

Shift into a lower gear to reduce the
possibility of overloading or over-
heating the engine, or both.

Descending a hill

S

Shift into a lower gear and use engine
compression as a braking effect. Pay
constant attention to speed and use
the brakes only as needed. Holding
the brake pedal down for a prolonged
period may cause the brakes to over-
heat and lose power.

Parking

S

Always make sure the tires of the
trailer and the tow vehicle are blocked
while parked.

S

Apply the parking brake and put the
transmission in 1 (First) or R (Reverse)
(manual) or in P (Park) (automatic).

Parking on an incline

S

Avoid parking on an incline,

 but if

you must, follow these instructions.

S

Apply the brake pedal and hold it.

S

Have another person place wheel
chocks under the trailer wheels.

S

With the chocks in place, release the
brake pedal, making sure the chocks
are holding.

S

For automatic transmissions—apply
the parking brake by pressing the
brake pedal down firmly with your
right foot while applying the parking
brake pedal with your left foot.

S

For manual transmission—apply the
service brake and shift into N (Neu-
tral) while still maintaining pressure
on the brake pedal. Set the parking
brake fully.

S

Shift an automatic transmission into
P (Park). Put the gearshift of a manual
transmission in R (Reverse).
