Fuel Requirements

Vehicles with catalytic converters must
use ONLY UNLEADED FUEL, which
will reduce exhaust emissions and keep
spark plug fouling to a minimum.

If your vehicle is a flexible fuel vehicle
(FFV), use only UNLEADED FUEL
and ETHANOL (E-85). The use of
leaded fuel and methanol is prohibited
by law and could damage your vehicle.

Do not use fuel containing methanol.
It can damage critical fuel systems com-
ponents.

Your vehicle was not designed to use
fuel or fuel additives with metallic com-
pounds, including manganese-based
compounds containing MMT.

Repairs to correct the effects of using a
fuel for which your vehicle was not
designed may not be covered by your
warranty.

Your Mazda will perform best with
regular unleaded fuel having an octane

rating (anti-knock index) of at least 87
[(R+M)/2 method].

Fuel with a lower rating could cause the
emission control system to lose effective-
ness. It could also cause engine knocking
and serious engine damage.

U.S. federal law requires that octane
ratings be posted on gasoline station
pumps.
